Welcome to fifth grade! I'm thrilled to be joining the Clyde Hill team this year. We have an exciting and challenging school year ahead of us. Students will be engaging in hands-on, problem-solving activities in math, literacy, science, social studies, and health. Detailed information on the fifth grade curriculum in Bellevue is available on the Bellevue School district web site (follow "Bellevue School District Curriculum Web" link at right).
I look forward to working with each student and his or her family to ensure that all are well prepared for success in middle school. Our school day begins promptly at 8:05 a.m. each morning; students should be at their desks and ready to work at this time. Fifth grade students should expect approximately 60-90 minutes of homework each evening. Assignments will include at least 30 minutes per day of sustained silent reading, daily math homework, and occasional long-term writing projects. My expectation is that all homework will be completed independently, to the best of the student’s ability, and turned in on time. Each student is also expected to maintain a homework calendar and an organized three-ring binder to keep track of schoolwork and projects.
In addition to academics, other fifth grade programs include band and orchestra, visits to Chinook Middle School, and various field trips. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!
