In this course high school juniors encounter the American literary heritage from its beginning to the present. They become familiar with the Puritan tradition, Rationalism, Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, and Contemporary literature while reading essays, poetry, short stories, and novels written by foremost U. S. writers and other writers of the Americas. Students will conduct research, and write expository, analytical, and persuasive essays, reflecting their ability to understand literature in its historical and cultural context.
