Middle School Physical Education – 6th Grade


Fitness Activities:

 

 

 


Objectives:

1.       Introduce the five basic components of fitness: body composition, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.

2.       Introduce the major muscle groups, their function and location in the body.

3.       Demonstrate how to find their pulse and heart rate.

4.       Introduce how to calculate target heart rate.

5.       Demonstrate how to use a pedometer.

6.       Participate in vigorous activity for a sustained period of time while maintaining a target heart rate to achieve cardiovascular benefits.

7.       Monitor heart rate before, during and after activity.

8.       Understand the benefits of being physically active.

9.       Develop a goal based on current fitness level.

 


Pacing Guide:

It is recommended that the fitness activities be taught in approximately thirty class sessions.

 


Unit Assessment:

Students will participate in the Presidential Challenge Fitness Tests at the beginning and end of the semester.
