GENERAL OVERVIEW OF PROGRAMS:

 

Students may start learning a world language as early as the 6th grade and continue studying the same language through 12th grade in the Bellevue School District. Capstone programs in the Level 5 and Level 6 courses include:  AP (Advanced Placement) Chinese Language, Honors Chinese 6, AP French Language, Honors French 6, AP German Language, Honors German 6, AP Japanese Language, Honors Japanese 6, AP Spanish Language, AP Spanish Literature, and IB (International Baccalaureate) Exams.   Languages presently offered are:  Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. 

 

A special program within the World Language Department is Spanish Immersion.  Students begin in Kindergarten at Puesta del Sol.  They study the district core curriculum through the medium of Spanish at Puesta del Sol. Immersion students continue their sequence through the middle school program at Tillicum and continue on through grade 12 at Newport High School. The capstone course for this program is AP Spanish Literature in the 12th grade.
