This biology course  includes the study of ecology, cells and transport, genetics and heredity, evolution, human nervous endocrine and immune systems, as well as human development.  Biological concepts and theories will be addressed at a level that  incorporates the technical vocabulary of biology.  Students will be expected to read the biology text independently, write formal laboratory reports, analyze data and account for errors in the lab, and complete projects and presentations.  Students will plan and perform experiments, observe and interpret data, and learn laboratory techniques.  Laboratory experiences foster an understanding of the methods of scientific investigation and development of scientific habits of mind.

“Today’s Biology Today”- Goals of the Bellevue Biology course

1.      Teach Biology as a quantitative and predictive science rather than the qualitative and descriptive science it has been historically.

2.      Teach Biology as evidence-based inquiry through the current practices and models used by today’s scientists.

3.      Teach Biology as a systems, networks, and information science.
