Soccer:
Soccer is one sport with two names. A few people know it as soccer but to a majority of the world it is football. The Chinese played a form of soccer around 200 BC in order to condition and build skills within the military ranks. The country that really developed the rules and sport of modern day soccer is Great Britain in the 1800’s.
Students will participate in a variety of drills and lead up games to increase their basic soccer skills. The goal for all students is to have the skills and knowledge necessary to play a beginning level game of soccer.
Objectives:

Demonstrate knowledge of basic rules and terminology of the game of soccer.

Demonstrate proper mechanics for beginning soccer skill: dribbling,passing, trapping, throw-ins, kicking and goal keeping.

Demonstrate beginning teamwork skills for the game of soccer.

Demonstrate personal safety and proper care and use of equipment.

Demonstrate characteristics of cooperation, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Pacing Guide:
It is recommended that the soccer unit be taught in nine class sessions.
Unit Assessment:
Students will be evaluated with skill assessments to determine that the unit objectives have been met. Students will also be assessed through teacher observation of skills and knowledge of rules during game play.
