High School Chamber Orchestra

HONORS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Chamber orchestra is open to lOth-l2th grade students who successfully completed String Orchestra. Audition is required.
Other Info: Fulfills the state (Benchmark Ill) and district high school
Fine Arts requirement. It may be repeated for credit. Students may travel in and out of state to attend festivals and competitions. Students from this class are eligible to participate in Eastshore region Solo and Ensemble festivals and audition for state honor groups. Students in this ensemble would be eligible for honors credit. See Honors: Music description.
Location: Newport

Chamber orchestra is a mastery-level course designed for the advanced string player. Students will continue to study curriculum developed for the district’s high school orchestra program. Students will achieve mastery over the concepts and skills of tone production, group and individual intonation, rhythm, balance, blend, dynamics, articulation, and elements of stylistically appropriate expression. Performance repertoire will be selected from the most advanced music for string and full orchestra. Students in this course will be expected to attend rehearsals, sectionals, and seminars during or outside the normal school day.
