Middle School Physical Education – 8th Grade


Fitness Activities:

 

 

 


Objectives:

1.       Review the five basic components of fitness: body composition,flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance.

2.       Understand the major muscle groups, their function and location in the body.       

4.       Understand and demonstrate correct use of a pedometer.

5.       Participate in vigorous activity for a sustained period of time while maintaining a target heart rate to achieve cardiovascular benefits.

6.       Monitor heart rate before, during and after activity.

7.       Review the benefits of being physically active.

8.       Demonstrate activities designed to improve and maintain muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and cardio-respiratory functioning.

9.       Understand the FITT principle

10.     Develop a fitness plan based on current fitness level.

 


Pacing Guide:

It is recommended that the fitness activities unit be taught in approximately thirty class sessions.

 


Unit Assessment:

Student will participate in the Presidential Challenge Fitness Tests at both the beginning and end of the semester.
