Prerequisite This course is designed for students with one-year experience. (Students new to the district, who have not had an opportunity to learn an instrument, need to meet with the director for assistance in selecting an instrument, beginning materials, and to discuss an accelerated learning plan to help the student to catch up with the experienced students.)

Band I (Middle School Concert Band) is a performance-based course which requires student participation in day and evening performances. In class,  the student will learn basic music theory, ear-training, and music history. Beginning composition skills, using Sibelius software, will also be introduced.  Students will be exposed to new the concepts of blend, balance,  and intonation (playing in tune).
